Hi, I’m Herb McMillan, Republican candidate for County Executive. As a former PTA president, tutor, and parent whose kids attended public schools, the quality of our children’s education has always been important to me, and it will continue to be one of my priorities as your county executive. That’s why what I’m about to share with you is so disturbing.
Did you know Steuart Pittman supports divisive critical race theory doctrines like structural racism and white privilege? They’re being institutionalized and taught as dogma in Anne Arundel County. Your tax dollars are paying for teachers, librarians, and other county employees to take mandated courses that present these radical theories as fact.
That’s wrong. Critical Race Theory says the most important thing about you is your race. Not your behavior, not your values, not your character. Just your race. If you’re a member of a minority group, you are a victim and the system is always rigged against you. If your race is privileged, you’re always an exploiter, whether you intend to be or not. Not since separate but equal has so much emphasis wrongly been put on skin color. Critical race theory isn’t ending racism; it embraces it, by dividing us into groups based on our skin color, not the content of our character.
Critical Race Theory proponents believe racism is present always and everywhere, structurally, and in each of us. To them, the racial equality we’ve worked so hard to achieve in America is a mirage. They believe racism never died, or was even reduced a little bit. They believe racism just hid itself better, and that it’s still everywhere. If you disagree, you’re either privileged or a racist.
They’re wrong again. The trajectory of American history is a steady climb to greater heights of personal freedom and individual empowerment among all races, sexes, creeds, and colors. Yes, overcoming slavery was a struggle, and we still have issues to resolve. But from early abolitionists, to the underground railroad, to a bloody civil war, to ending Jim Crow laws, to overturning separate but equal, to marching with Dr. Martin Luther King to secure full voting rights, White and Black Americans have advanced the cause of Freedom together.
Thanks to the Pittman Administration, Anne Arundel County public school kids are a year behind our private school kids, who safely went back to class last September, in accordance with CDC guidelines. Our teachers should be focused on teaching them, not forced to spend time taking left-wing political reeducation classes funded with your money. The far-left’s logical next step, of course, would be for our children to have critical race theory forced on them as well.
That won’t happen on my watch. If you believe, as Dr. Martin Luther King did, that we “should be judged by the content of our character, and not by the color of our skin,” and that “ The goal of America is Freedom, and so is her destiny, “ then join our campaign. Herb McMillan for County Executive- because it’s your Freedom.
